About Chris
Chris has had a passion for photography since teenage years and has experience of printing and developing his own black and white images.
Chris’ father grew up in South Wales and Chris visited regularly when growing up. Upon moving from England to Wales in his early-30s, Chris fell in love with the landscapes of South Wales, especially the Brecon Beacons, Gower and West Wales, and chose to embark as a professional landscape photographer.
Chris’ images reflect the experience of solitude and quietness in nature. Chris walks long distances and spends many hours including overnight to seek out peaceful locations and calm moments - especially during dawn, dusk, and the night hours. He works with his own sense of what feels beautiful, what appeals to him, what feels right to photograph.
He captures the feeling of the moment using a variety of photography tools, for example, slowing down the movement of the waves with filters to lengthen exposure times. He tends to play around with different options, until the image seems to fit the experience of the moment. Depending on the type of image, this process continues post-production, for example the star-trail images typically require more work than daylight stills.
Throughout the process, Chris remains connected with the feeling of what it was like to witness the scene, and to bring this out in the image - the magic of the Milky Way hovering above Pen y Fan in the stillness and silence of the Brecon Beacons at night.
Chris hopes that these images will help others to connect with their own sense of being.
